SSE,
Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organized non-profit exclusively for charitable,
scientific and educational purposes; more specifically to promote public
awareness, provide information and education to our communities and
underprivileged inner city kids/teens/college students, and support the
value of sisterhood and professionalism while representing a character
of integrity.
The intention of the organization began with college roommates wanting to promote sisterhood throughout the campus of Savannah State University . The Founders of SSE were trying to figure out a way to break barriers that constantly tear women apart. The ladies had the idea that if they could promote sisterhood, honesty, and reliability to females, then that alone would constitute in making a difference within themselves as well as others.

Tawana Gibbs (Co-founding President), Felicia Kidd (Co-Founder) and Ashley Scott (Co-Founder) were friends and roommates.
The ladies held it’s first unofficial meeting on July 24, 2001. The vision, mission statement, objectives, and concepts were developed in this meeting. On September 4, 2001 the first formal meeting was held and by January 2002, there was an established foundation with seventeen Chartered Members. A Confidentiality statement was signed by all members including the advisor and by fall of 2002, SSE became an influential and respected organization. In 2008, Terika Slocumb (SSE President 2008-2010) helped the organization reach another milestone by having SSE Incorporated. On October 29, 2010, the organization became more than a campus organization: they received their non-profit status.
